Fifth year Civil Engineering students of Bicol University has been fortunate to be the very first batch to visit and experience an educational plant tour in the newly operational Bulacan Bulk Water Treatment Plant, a state-of-the-art facility built by the Luzon Clean Water Development Corporation (LCWDC),a subsidiary of San Miguel Corporation.

The tour was facilitated by LCWDC together with Engr. Jose Escoto, Department Manager, Field Operations & Maintenance, assisted by Policy, Planning and PR Department Staff.

LCWDC is now the third private Concessionaire of MWSS supplying bulk water to 13 water districts in Bulacan, or the North Concession Area. Soon, once stage 3 is completed, 24 water districts will be supplied under the same bulk water arrangement.

Almost 200 students participated in the educational tours held on October 14 and 17, 2019. They were given brief lectures by Engr. Jun Escoto about MWSS and by Engr. Thomas Ortega of LCWDC. The students were advised to consider a career on water supply as these entail a vast field of engineering applications such as roadworks, civil structures, chemical and mechanical engineering to name a few. The visit ended with a plant tour.

The MWSS-CO’s door is always open to students who want to experience first-hand story behind how water is brought to the taps as it will help them see the clear picture of the theoretical things they have learnt. It will also foster deeper understanding of real life situations than a book can ever convey. The MWSS on the other hand wish to promote its advocacy to the youth on the responsible use of water.
