MWSS Administrator Gerardo A. I. Esquivel receives the Presidential Medal of Merit from President Benigno S. Aquino III at the Malacanan Palace on 23 June 2016 for his outstanding and dedicated work and exceptional leadership in support of the Administration’s platform of clean and honest governance.
Other awardees for the Presidential Medal of Merit were chief executives of other agencies like Social Secretary Susan Reyes, GCG Chairman Cesar Villanueva, PEZA Head Lilia de Lima, GSIS President Robert Vergara and HUDCC Chair Chito Cruz. There were actually two awards given during the affair with the other being the Order of Lakandula. Among the awardees for the Lakandula award were DSWD Secretary Dinky Soliman, Education Secretary Armin Luistro, Socio Economic Planning Secretary Emmanuel Esguerra, Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz, Health Secretary Janette Garin and DPWH Secretary Rogelio Singson. The Order of Lakandula Award is one of the senior honors of the Republic recognizing civil and political merit and the Presidential Medal of Merit is given for who have rendered outstanding service to the President. According to the President, all awardees answered the call to bring change to the country, and awards like these, “…must always remind us of how much our country needs everybody’s help and how, as regular citizens, we must remain engaged in improving the lives of our fellowmen and protecting our democratic way of life.”
