On 28 June 2019, MWSS employees had the opportunity to enjoy the lush landscape of the La Mesa Watershed when they went on a 6-km Nature Walk. Throughout the walk, participants had a deeper appreciation on the natural beauty of the watershed, which has been enriched with 81,978 forest tree species to stand against the different natural and human disturbances.
La Mesa Watershed is a 2,700-hectare reservation area situated at the heart of Metro Manila and is one of the major sources of Metro Manila’s drinking water.
“Every Filipino is an environment warrior,” this was the lingering message of Mr. David Azurin, Project Operations Head of Save the La Mesa Watershed Project when he gave the participants an orientation of the Project. Together with MWSS’ Watershed Manager, Romeo Corpuz, Mr. Azurin explained the flora and fauna, in synergy with the physical activity of walking.
After the prayer and briefing, the MWSS employees trailed the 6-km walk but halfway through it, the rain poured heavily. This did not stop the employees to finish the trail. This is a good symbolism that aside from the employees’ resilience, the concern for the preservation of environment is strong in MWSS.
MWSS together with its partner agencies, hope that through this activity, MWSS can disseminate environment awareness in its own little way.
