Every SONA reporting cycle, the MWSS provides input to the Office of the President on the most important water security measures that should be covered in the President’s SONA.  In his first State of the Nation Address, President Bongbong Marcos pledged to address the “precarious fresh water supply situation, particularly in urban areas” and to “rehabilitate and improve water supply systems from the 1950s.”  In addition, he considered the “creation of the Department of Water Resources,” an apex body that will foster coordinated efforts in the water, sewerage, and sanitation sector.

On July 26, 2022, cabinet secretaries, and other government personalities gathered at the PICC as the country’s economic managers revealed the Administration’s six-years plan for the nation. For the first time in the lengthy history of the Philippine President’s State of the Nation Address, the MWSS was invited to the economic briefing. The post-SONA event was attended by MWSS Administrator Leonor Cleofas, DA Jose Dorado and DM Susanne Sta Maria.  During the briefings, it was emphasized how important it is to work collaboratively with the private sector in order to help the economy recover and to address water sufficiency.
