It is the fifth day that the MWSS-led Response Teams (MWSS/MWSI/MWC) have remained in Abra to deliver drinking water to the 30,000 households whose water systems were damaged by the magnitude 7 earthquake.  The affected households lack access to clean water for drinking, cooking, and washing, and improving the situation is part of MWSS’s mission, core culture, and values.

After turning over to the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) Operations Center in Bangued, Abra, over 2,000 gallon containers (5 and 1 gallon units), the MWSS team proceeded with the tanker deliveries of treated water through the 8 water tankers made available by Manila Water, Maynilad and the Metro Bangued Water District (MBWD).  Safe and potable water are made available to households and families in the evacuation centers of Poblacions Lagangilang, Tayun, Penarrubia, Pidigan, Bucay, Langiden, Sulbec, Bangued Zone 1 to Zone 7, and other nearby barangays.

The MWSS Mobile Water Treatment Plant is stationed at MBWD and source its raw water from a spring in Bgy. Lusuac, Penarrubia, Abra.  The treated water is then delivered by water tankers to communities and to refill the static tank stations, making at least four (4) trips per day carrying around 20,000-liter per trip.

Unfazed by daily aftershocks, torrential rains, and intermittent-to-no cellular signal, the MWSS team works long hours to meet the affected families’ water supply needs.
