MWSS groundbreaks the Bulacan Bulk Water Supply Project (BBWSP) in San Jose Bulacan (SJDM) on 15 April 2016 with President Aquino laying underneath the ground the ceremonial capsule for the BBWSP. The capsule laying was witnessed by officials of national and local government and the Luzon Clean Water Development Corporation (the SMC-KWater consortium that won the bid for the BBWSP) led by DPWH Secretary Rogelio Singson, DILG Secretary Mel Senen Sarmiento, MWSS Administrator Gerry Esquivel, LWUA Administrator Andres Ibarra, Bulacan Governor Sy-Alvarado, SJDM Mayor San Pedro, Korean Ambassador Kim Jae-Sin and Luzon Clean Water officers. The actual groundbreaking site was the NHA property bought by MWSS as location of the water treatment plant for the project.

The BBWSP stands to benefit some 541,000 households and 569 barangays in terms of water supply. Construction start date is scheduled for September 2016 and completion is targeted for 2018.
