The MWSS signs the US$123.3m loan agreement with ADB for the Angat Water Transmission Improvement Project (AWTIP) on 29 March 2016 two months after the finalization of its terms and conditions on 28 January 2016.
Present during the signing were top officials of the MWSS and the ADB led by MWSS Administrator Gerardo A. I. Esquivel and Richard Bolt, ADB Philippine Country Office Director.
The loan which is guaranteed by the national government will finance the Angat Water Transmission Improvement Project (AWTIP) which is currently on the bidding stage. AWTIP aims to improve the reliability and security of the raw water through partial rehabilitation of the transmission system from Ipo to La Mesa and the introduction of water safety, risk and asset management plans. It involves the construction of a new tunnel from Ipo to Bigte with a diameter of 4 meters and a total length of 6.30 kilometers and intake and outlet works. Design capacity is 19 cubic meters per second (19cms). Project completion is targeted for Dec 31, 2020.
