The MWSS finalizes the AWTIP Loan Agreement with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) on January 28, 2016 after two days of final negotiations.

The US$ 123.3M loan will finance MWSS’ Angat Water Transmission Improvement Project (AWTIP) which is currently on the bidding stage. The loan is guaranteed by the national government through the Department of Finance. Also finalized, together with the Loan Agreement, were the Guarantee Agreement and the Project Administration Manual. The Project Administration Manual contains the technical information about the project.

AWTIP aims to improve the reliability and security of the raw water through partial rehabilitation of the transmission system from Ipo to La Mesa and the introduction of water safety, risk and asset management plans. It involves the construction of a new tunnel from Ipo to Bigte with a diameter of 4 meters and a total length of 6.30 kilometers, with a design capacity of 19 cubic meters per second (19cms) including intake and outlet works which will facilitate the subsequent rehabilitation of the whole transmission system. Project completion is targeted for Dec 31, 2020.
