On 11 February 2019, the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) arrived at the intake area (Ipo Dam) from Brgy. Bigte, Norzagaray, Bulacan three months (3) ahead of its scheduled time. The TBM named Veronica arrived last year, February 5, 2018, and is being used to excavate AWTIP (Angat Water Tunnel Improvement Project) Tunnel no. 4 and now, is in its final stage of tunnel excavation.
The AWTIP Tunnel no. 4 construction is an MWSS project aimed at improving reliability and security of the raw water coming from the Angat Dam through rehabilitation of the transmission system from Ipo to Angat. Implementation is being done by winning contractor CMC di Ravenna of Italy.
Present in this historic event were Administrator Reynaldo V. Velasco, Atty. Patrick Ty of MWSS-RO, Mr. Geodino Carpio and Mr. Thomas Mattison of Manila Water and Mr. Randy Estrellado of Maynilad who all gave their commending speeches to the team. DA Leonor Cleofas, DA Romeo Roderos of MWSS-CO, MWSS, Maynilad, Manila Water, CPF and CMC di Ravenna employees also attended. After the speeches, following was the blessing of the Intake Area administered by Rev. Fr. Julius Faa (Parochial Vicar of St. Andrew the Apostle Church).
DA Moro Virgilio Lazo, Engr. Jose Dorado, Engr. Jun Escoto, Engr. Ryan Ayson, Jonathan Lamug, Wilson Baluca, Engr.Patrick Dizon of the MWSS-CO, Salvatore La Valle of CMC di Ravenna and selected employees all did the symbolic walk in the tunnel excavated from Sitio Spar to Ipo Intake, by slowly crawling through the TBM onto the hole which the machine has opened up.
Closing remarks was given by Mr. Andrea Ciamei and Salvatore La Valle of CMC di Ravenna, followed by lunch which was hosted by CMC di Ravenna and attended by MWSS, Maynilad, Manila Water and CPF employees.
